Large family of 11 goosander chicks also seen. 5 cygnets on a nearby pond all doing well although the initial nest was so high out of the water a slope of reeds was built to help young cygnets get up.Jim Mcintoshnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6630121195074082753.post-47935118297997081022022-04-28T14:20:11.530+01:002022-04-28T14:20:11.530+01:00Been in nairn for 4 days and spoke to Joe telfer a...Been in nairn for 4 days and spoke to Joe telfer and he's was telling me all about the ducks. I live near the River Doon mouth in Ayr.We have nesting swans on a small island for a number of years although not always the same pair.A lone goose appeared around 2008 and became "daddy" to the cygnets until we think a fox killed him a couple of years ago.Last summer high tides washed the first nest with eggs away. A second nest was built and produced two cygnets. However they were killed by mink which seem to have appeared recently. Despite contacting SNH nothing has been done as no one seems to have licence to kill them. The swan is back on the island on her nest and we hope for the best .Jim McIntoshnoreply@blogger.com
