Latest Score: Predators 41, Ducks 13
Another Mother duck turned up yesterday with 10 ducklings, she appears to still have them today. Unfortunately the mother with 6 is now down to 3. The running tally at the moment is predators 41 ducks 13, I'm fairly sure this will tilt even more towards the predators. I know of several ducks that are still "sitting" so I'm hopeful that we will have more to come, the constant spring like temperatures seem to have prolonged the duck mating season, and some who lost their first clutches are nesting again.

ReplyDeleteWell anon at the time of writing this you can add another + 4 to the predators and - 4 to the ducks.
ReplyDeleteJoe i havent seen any young up the riverside yet, to be quite honest i have hardly seen any ducks up there yet--dont know whats wrong.
ReplyDeleteAye Jock, someone else has commented to me on the lack of ducks up the river. It has been a weird year weather wise, cold and lack of insects too. Last year a lot of the adult females disappeared, could be Mink, Otters, and dogs taking a toll on the ducks, who knows?
ReplyDeleteI know of a couple of ducks that should still come up trumps yet, could do with some warmth !
We had about 43 female ducks in the spring that moved away to nest, we'll see how many we have come this winter.
