Ducklings New Mobile Home

You would imagine finding a Plastic box nowadays would be easy, but I suppose it depends on the size. I tried several sources including the internet, but finding a box about a metre long by half a metre deep and wide was either impossible or cost a small fortune ! In the end, I realised that if I laid a wheelie bin on its back, cut out the front and sealed the lid, it would do the job. Before I get accused of stealing and vandalising council property, I did buy the wheelie bin from the council for £35, sorry to disappoint my rabid pack of critics ! The ducklings have now moved from a one room flat, to a luxury purpose built mobile home ! Short video below.

  1. £35 is the subsided cost for providing a householder with a replacement or new wheelie bin if the house doesn't have one and is not the true cost of the item. They are provided at this cost to ensure that all householders continue to use the refuse service rather than dispose of their rubbish in some other way.

I suggest you contact the council on Monday and explain that your replacement bin was in fact to cut up for a duck pond and offer to pay the true cost of the bin as clearly it is never going to be of use as bin again.

  2. @TEC services, I did explain EXACTLY What I was looking for and the exact purpose it was intended for to the council staff. I said I was willing to pay, and the quote I got was £35-25p for a new bin which was paid in advance.

If there is any fault in this transaction then I suggest you contact the council and explain their error.

  3. Considering the amount of vandalised bins I have hauled out of the river, over the years, not to mention new poop bins as well, and all the other litter and trash I have cleared up. I think the council should have given me a bin free gratis for my services to the community, and the enhancement of the river wildlife to the benefit of the towns tourist trade. Shame on you TEC services.

  5. Thanks anon, It's nice to know I have some friends and supporters out there who appreciate the river wildlife.
I did ask the council if they had any old or vandalised bins I could have, but they said that those sort of bins were sent for recycling and my only option was to buy one for the above price.

  8. Hi Sari,

When they are this young, they need warmth and food more than water. If you look at my next post you will see that they don't go without the water either, they get taken to the bath 4 times day meanwhile.
