Rare Bird on East Beach
One of our trust members spotted a rare visitor to Nairn East beach mudflats today. George Berryman took a couple of photos of the rare bird, although slightly out of focus because of the distance and zoom.
However it is clearly a Little Egret and would not normally be seen this far north in the UK.
The mild winter conditions may have contributed to it being in the area.
The is the first Little Egret I have seen in Scotland, I had the pleasure of taken this photo it was just a wee far away form me it kept moving as I approach it, Im wondering if this first one ever sighted in Nairn ?

I would not be at all surprised if it was the first one ever spotted in Nairn. I will ask the RSPB if they know.
ReplyDeleteKeep snapping George !
George, according to the RSPB 2 Little Egrets showed up at Culbin in January and one is still there. This is a first for Nairn, although one showed up at Castle Stewart a year or two back.
ReplyDeleteApparently they have colonised the UK in the last 20 years are now spreading North.
