Cool Cormorant

The chilly Harbour was host to a cool Cormorant the other day, standing on the upturned mink trap after the gale of last week. No easy eel meals to be had at this time of the year, as was the case during the summer.

Cool shots! So was that the end for mr. Eel here? Does the unlucky prey put up a good fight, if eaten, is it swallowed down wriggling the whole way as well?!

Hi Kyle, Yes that was the end for the Eel,and it does wriggle all the way down ! The Eel is no match for a fish predator like the Cormorant.

Well I am no expert on cormorants, but I have seen them eat many different types of fish, some a lot bigger than the eel. They are well equipped for the job and crush the skull, the eel would soon die of suffocation once swallowed anyway. Like the Heron they can eat living fish and have a large gullet and crop where everything is ground down before entering the stomach.
