WE ARE CUSTODIANS OF THE PLANET AND HAVE A DUTY TO CARE FOR IT. For the past 18 years I've had the privilege of watching and caring for the resident Swans on our local river estuary. I have been charmed and fascinated by their parental skills and beauty in the water, they are Simply Superb Swans. Annual Membership to the River Nairn Swans and Waterfowl Trust is £20 for a family, can be paid securely through the PayPal Donate button below. Thank you.

Are you actually registered as a charity Joe? Just if so you can claim some tax breaks on the donations and it might be an incentive for people to give money to you
Hi Bill, We will be having our first Trust meeting on the 18th January. This will be to approve our constitution / rules and sort out Banking mandate details etc. We are most definitely a charity, but not yet registered because we have to get these details sorted first. We will apply for registered charity status as soon as is practical. Hopefully we will have enough coming in to suit the tax breaks situation !
I could not agree more with Bill's comments. The implications of the use of the word Trust suggests a registered charity, but unless it is registered then giving a donation/membership fee under Gift Aid is not possible, which increases it by 25p in every £1. There are also VAT advantages to be gained by having printed material for advertising and advertisements in the press VAT Zero rated, and therefore a saving to the Trust.
Well John, In some ways It's a pity We have to register as a charity, since we have no big ambitions - merely to raise enough for our needs locally. It puts a lot of additional red tape that frankly we could do without. I note that for England and Wales, a charity income of less than £5000 does not need to register, but still call themselves a charity.
Since we only want to raise around £1500 we would be well within that criteria.
Unfortunately Scotland has no such benchmark and registration is an obligation regardless of the amount, if we want to call ourselves a charity! So for the time being we are a non profit voluntary organisation if you will !
