Was shown a Skeleton bird leg the other day and was intrigued by the tag and what type of bird it might have been. The leg was found on Nairn beach by Fiona Christie, so I sent a photo to the RSPB who kindly did a bit of research and came back with the following explanation, all very Interesting !
Hi Joe
It's taken a wee bit of digging to find out but the
bird is a shag that was ringed on one of the Firth of Forth islands in 2015 -
last previous sightings were on the Isle of May in December. Sounds like it
headed north after that and succumbed in the winter storms.
Many thanks
for the record - it's provoked a lot of interest amongst the shag
ringers!
Cheers
Stuart

Have you ever been tempted to ring a generation of the Nairn swans?
It has crossed my mind, but up till now they are scot free and the world is their oyster !
