Spring Tides

Slim and Sue have been busy nest building, ready for another season.

This week heralds Spring tides almost swamping the Swans island. In anticipation, the Trust scattered additional straw around the nest site for Slim and Sue.

Fascinating to watch Slim as he diligently moulds the nest size for Sue and potential clutch.

Meanwhile she gathers minerals and algae, nibbling at whatever greenery she can find.

The tides will be pretty close to the top over the coming days, with low pressure over the north sea.

Hi, Joe, good to see your swans nest building. The swans here have built their nest too. Beatrix has laid at least 6 or 7 eggs and has started incubation. Vulcan is ever on guard or patrolling their territory. Hatching should happen during the last week in April. Eggciting times x

Hi Wendy, that is great news, hope it's a nice big brood for you. I think they'll all be in for a shock next week when we get the Arctic weather again!
Don't worry though, I've seen them sitting on eggs surrounded by snow up here !
I don't expect ours until May.
Check out a film I made 10 years ago, something nice to look forward to.
