Summer at it's peak, with low water conditions and maximum vegetation growth, makes for easy living for the waterbirds.
Sue has moulted and Slim will soon follow.
Meanwhile he is the prime mover and has to take the lead showing the cygnets how to exercise their wings....

My friend looks after some swans local to his area. It is a mother/ son pairing and last year they hatched 4 cygnets. 4 again this year. One of the cygnets has one wing smaller than the other. Is this a developmental issue? Do you think it will catch up with the other wing? Is there anything he should do? There are no quills sticking out at a funny angle, so I don’t think it is angel wing. I will send you some photos via email.

I had to remove a treble hook from one of our cygnets yesterday, and then gently pull out three feet of fishing line from his throat! Once back in the water, he had a bath and then enjoyed some sweetcorn.

Hi Wendy, If it's a family pairing it might well be a genetic flaw showing up in the development. The wings are the last thing to develop on the cygnets. The photos are a bit too close to see whole situation. One of the photos looks like a possible injury? Have replied via email.
