Penny was calling for Duke last night after he was taken to the Vets. Today she has calmed down and seems to have accepted his disappearance for the moment.
She took advantage of the Spring sunshine and sat on the exact spot they spent together the day before.
The latest News I have on Duke is that he has responded to early hydration and antibiotic measures and appeared more lively this morning. He will be taken down to Fishcross SPCA national wildlife rescue centre near Alloa tomorrow for further tests and treatment. He was lucky to have been given some vet help yesterday since they are normally closed. As luck would have it, they were on hand dealing with an emergency road casualty and were able to give Duke some preliminary treatment which may have made all the difference to his survival.
Duke has been taken to the SPCA wildlife rescue centre down at Fishcross, he is still not eating so am very concerned. I have asked the Vets to send a blood sample to the laboratory to determine if he has been poisoned. The Trust will pay for this service.
Popeye has been given antibiotics and put on a drip to keep him hydrated. He has been transferred to the SPCA wildlife centre at Fishcross for further treatment. With his history at their disposal he should be well taken care of - as he was last year.
The photos of Popeye flying were taken last Saturday, the day before he was laid low by whatever ails him !
Hopefully he will be back in a week or so, flying alongside his family !
Penny and the cygnets have been waiting and searching for Popeye. Penny occasionally calls out for him and goes up to the road bridge where I picked him up yesterday. Latest news today is that Popeye's temperature is falling and he is being taken to the new Scottish SPCA wildlife centre near Perth tomorrow. The facilities are all there for full veterinary treatment and care.
Hopefully he will make a full recovery and be back with his family soon.
Penny is capable of managing the family on her own, but her partner of 10 years will be sorely missed !
