Barren River

With so many winter spates, the river is bereft of precious Algae at this time of year.

The winter sun has been in short supply, which has not helped the situation. Penny is now entering the pre nesting stage, and always on the lookout for Algae in order to help with the production of eggs.

Although both swans are in excellent health, she needs the natural minerals and Algae to produce a good hatch in the coming months.

Sunshine and low water conditions should help the photosynthesis grow the Algae on the river bottom.

"Gluey" Seeks Algae

"Gluey" our dominant male cygnet was showing off his wings today, what a fine cygnet he is turning out to be.

He was also seeking out Algae from the river rocks, edible River weed is now in short supply and with the neap tides they don't have easy access to the seaweed until lower tides next week. I have started giving the family some carrots to supplement their vegan dietary needs, all the birds are in excellent health.

Snowy White Swans

With Today's Spring Equinox there is no spring weather to match,  and the winter forecast is for yet more Snow on the way.  Ah well - better now than April and May, for many of the birds are already nesting.

The Swans are well into their nesting preparations and Penny is seeking out minerals and algae nutrients. Snowing or not, she is moulding the nest site for this years brood.

I have done some remedial work to the island that was eroded by the big Storm surge a few months back, with still a little more to do.

Opposite's Attract

Penny is very fastidious right now and spending all her time seeking out Roots, Algae, and minerals for egg production. These are vital to her system and another successful breeding season. She has been out at sea for weed and minerals, and the river and harbour for Algae and roots. Her partner Popeye has finally seen off the young pretender, and a determined calm has returned to the river. They're looking in great condition for the creation of a new generation .
