Shortest Days

Approaching the mid winter point, and the shortest days are upon us.

Slim and Sue are now unlikely to offload the cygnets until new year.

Meanwhile their daily feed is relished by all our river birds.

Long dark nights, icy cold water and short days mean a scramble for the Trust grain when it arrives.

Afterwards, a refreshing bath in  the Moat sets them up for another long night-Brr ! Short video below.

Feeding Time

With the long awaited river in spate, the anglers will be out in force today.

Several hours of heavy rain last night has created a modest rise in the river level, this should help the fish in from the sea.

Meanwhile with the dirty water conditions I had to adjust the feeding position for the Swans and ducks.

Their vision in dirty water is poor and unable to see small grains of wheat.
