Little Egret

Keen walker and Trust Member George Berryman, captured a couple of nice shots out by the Ministers Loch today.

The little Egret has made the area it's home over the past couple of years.
These birds are fairly rare in Northern areas, this could be the result of climate change. George said it was a graceful mover.

By George !

Trust member George Berryman was amazed by a local Wood pigeon that was eating out of his hand today.

Wood Pigeons are usually fairly shy birds and keep their distance from humans. This is one of a pair I have been feeding over the past year and have gained their trust.

They have been feeding along with the feral pigeons around the Merryton bridge for some time now.

This one started eating out of my hand the other day, and George had the privilege of doing likewise today.

They are beautiful birds, and getting this close to wildlife is a joy.

Little Egret Again

Trust Member and keen naturalist George Berryman has once again seen the Little Egret near the Culbin.

Standing on one leg it was still some distance away, but George got a couple of pics just the same.
Hopefully it will become a "local" bird and also have a mate too.

Rare Bird on East Beach

One of our trust members spotted a rare visitor to Nairn East beach mudflats today. George Berryman took a couple of photos of the rare bird, although slightly out of focus because of the distance and zoom.

However it is clearly a Little Egret and would not normally be seen this far north in the UK.
The mild winter conditions may have contributed to it being in the area.

Trust Members Photos

Trust members George Berryman and  Barry Searle sent in a few pics. The first was from George of a mother Duck about to take the plunge with the ducklings looking on.

The other two of the cygnets taken by Barry at the harbour.

Both cameras have a higher ratio of pixels than mine so have cropped to aid display.
Nice shots guys !

Mandarin Duck - Part 2

Fellow Trust Member and keen Bird man George Berryman has kindly sent in some stunning shots of the Mandarin Duck in Forres.

These beautiful birds might well be nesting in the area, and what a boost to the exotic species if they produce ducklings !

Redwing Arrival

One of our Trust members George Berryman has just sent me a couple of pics showing a Redwing he took yesterday.

This is probably from Iceland and come here for the winter for the abundance of berries to eat.

Redwing are similar to a thrush, but have a red patch under their wings, which of course you can't see when the wings are closed. Nice shot George !

Trust Members Photos

George Berryman, one of our Trust members has sent in a few pics. The Brent geese are the ones often seen up near the Swimming baths feeding on the green rock weed.

The lone Swan was taken today and it came into the river to be escorted away by our pair. I have to say it looks very like our previous pen, it would be sad if she has never got a new mate.

Nice shots of the Robin and Turnstones George.
