Keeping Warm

Icy wind and frosty conditions means keeping warm is vital.

Birds metabolism is greater than other species and therefore need more food. Penny and Duke hunkered down after a good feed.

Keeping Warm

The mother duck that made it to the river on the 22nd with a large brood is doing a remarkable job.

She still has 13 and keeping them safe from all comers at the moment.

When not feeding and the drop in temperature, keeping them warm is a priority . The June flood has removed all the weed and algae, so adequate food is an issue right now.

Keeping Warm

The birds are feeling the cold, and I pity any that have hatched in the wild in recent days.

The 13 newly hatched ducklings are keeping warm together, and the Mother duck in the Aviary is doing her best to keep her 12 under wraps too !

Even Popeye was breaking the cold northerly wind for Penny on the nest, hopefully this cold spell wont last too long. Amazingly I spotted some Sand Martins arriving today !
