President Out Of Touch

This weeks Nairnshire Telegraph gives a partial account of last weeks River community council meeting when I hoped to address some regional councillors.

None of the 4 councillors were present, but I thought I might as well let the Community councillors hear what I had in mind. This must have been to the delight of the President of the Nairn angling Association, Willie Barron - since he appeared to come to the meeting just to attack me and the Swans Island. He claimed the swans Island was "disastrous", which shows just how out of touch he is. The Swans island has been a fantastic success, not only for the Swans but the whole Town of Nairn. Since it's creation the swans have successfully reared 62 cygnets to full fledge, giving untold pleasure to thousands of locals and visitors during the past 9 years. It has also successfully produced many duck broods as well.

The island was carefully positioned in a spot which had no bearing on the run of the river or it's fishing or fish.
This latest claim is as out of touch as his assertion, that this tiny island could cause the flooding of Fishertown.

Local Politics

It has come to my attention that a newly organised company called Nairn River Enterprise has been created.
I went to their website to see what they're about, and likely to have any impact on The Nairn Swans and Waterfowl Trust. My immediate reaction on seeing their website photo showing the Swans and ducks at Merryton bridge did not impress.

I would like to make it crystal clear that this new private limited company, has no connection with The River Nairn Swans and Waterfowl Trust. The Trust is strictly non political, is a non profit unincorporated association, run by unpaid volunteers, Membership is open to everyone. The Trust are the guardians of the River birds, their welfare, habitat and environment.

The new Nairn River Enterprise company has some local politicians and activists as directors, and they seem to have ambitious plans for the Town. The local weekly newspaper The Nairnshire Telegraph has this weeks front page story on the financial squabbles of this embryonic company.

This new company looks like a political attempt to rival  NICE, ( Nairn Improvement Community Enterprise ).
Our new Nairn River Community Council has voted wisely on the financial Squabble.

The only Squabbles the Trust want to see on the river, is strictly between the birds !  My opinion....Too much Politics not enough enterprise !

Nairn Demo - Update !

The Demonstration of people power opposed to the South Nairn housing project has now been officially changed to next Wednesday the 18th of September. A full page advert in todays Nairnshire Telegraph is a call to all the residents of Nairn to show backing for their Local Community Councils, in opposing the Highland regions plans for a large housing scheme without their approval.
The River Nairn Swans and waterfowl trust are fully supportive of this demonstration on environmental grounds, and consider a Bypass for the Town and full upgrade of the sewage system should be the first step for any further large scale development in Nairn. Enclosed part of the advert below !

Wha Daur Meddle Wi Me

This weeks local paper The Nairnshire Telegraph has again headlined the subject of Gulls. This is an annual event and has been raised time and time again. I have also posted some comment on the subject of gulls over the years, and for those who are interested you can read my view on THIS LINK

Faiths ducklings are growing along with the 4 motherless ones, enjoying the summer as long as they have ample supply of fresh water.

They occasionally like to stay close to me in the doorway if there is any perceived threats.

Summer weather continues unabated and there are some unusual plant growth dotted around, a particularly stunning Thistle on the riverside caught my eye. Also known as a "Wha daur meddle wi me !"

For the Record

After a short piece in the local paper The Nairnshire Telegraph regarding my being assaulted. For the record I would like people to know that I was pushed from a high river wall approx 12' into 18" of water and silt. The photo shows the crime scene conditions and approx spot where I was pushed. I hope to find out tomorrow who the assailant was, and what happened in the court on monday.
