Disco is still sitting on unhatched eggs, it might well be that some of them will not be fertilised.
So far I have only seen 4 ducklings, but I do expect to see more.
They are now starting to explore the coop, and having sips of water and mealworm.
After tomorrow, all that are going to hatch should make an appearance.
You can see some eggs underneath ,as well as a little one peeking out, and the others in the back.
Disco looks pretty pleased with herself !
Ducks on the river are still hatching, I am hopeful that even more are yet to arrive.
Lovely to see that there are currently 3 mums still holding on to some ducklings, we have a mother with 1 another with 3 and the latest mother with 9 who was nesting on the swans island. She already lost some eggs to the gulls earlier in the season and I knew she was having a second attempt. The heavy vegetation growth is now very much to their advantage for avoiding detection by predators.
The biggest threat now is people spotting and throwing bread to them, this only alerts the gulls and crows now feeding their own young.
Meanwhile the Swans and other birds are busy feeding their young too.
After a lovely mid day with sunshine and light winds, this afternoon / evening it all turned pear shaped and back to the usual cold northerlies ! This was a great pity because Penny will keep the new cygnets under wraps, especially while the hatching continues.
However at mid day I did manage to get some intimate shots, I am hoping to get more as the new brood breaks out.
