Successful Release By DUV...Duck Utility Vehicle

Conditions for the release of the recovered Duck and her brood were ideal today.

Had to improvise the transport and do the job myself, using the DUV... duck utility vehicle!

It's amazing what a mobility scooter can carry, 8 ducks and myself !

The mother duck has recovered well from her head injury, and the ducklings are on the verge of flight, as she led them into the river.

They were accompanied by Disco's daughter who returned to the Trust care home twice. Short video below showing their last bath in the care of the Trust.

Successful Release - Duck Diversity

The 4 Yellow ducklings rescued two months ago, were successfully released back to the wild.

The Trust has given them a chance they would otherwise not have had. There are 2 males and females, they will have to learn quickly how to survive without a mother to guide them, we can only hope for the best.

They have the ability to fly, but will take a while to adjust to the wild. I have another 18 in care, being nurtured until ready for release.

All of them are carrying the white duck genes, if some survive this should ensure diversity among the river duck population for years to come. Short video below.

Successful Release

After Two months care and attention by myself and Disco, the rescued ducklings and some of Disco's were successfully released into the wild today. It was a perfect day and so far the hottest this year.

With the help of our Chairman Martin and trust  member Donald, we managed to take three boxes with all 23 ducklings down to the riverside.

The fresh running water was enjoyed by all as they kept close together. There were 12 females and 11 drakes, several of the females are very much like Disco - I hope they survive and thrive.  They will integrate with the local ducks in the coming days. Short video of  release below.

Successful Release

After 8 weeks, today saw the successful release of 10 ducklings.

These were a combination of 8 that were hatched in the incubator, and two saved from the moat about 8 weeks ago.

There was another which I've had to take back home due to it having an unstable leg, I will take it to the Vet this afternoon to see what can be done.

There is also a mother duck with 5 tiny ducklings, she arrived with 8 about four days ago but so far lost 3 to the Crows.
