Cygnets are surprising many by their rapid growth, this is quite normal at 6 weeks they are almost the size of a goose !
The grain bill this year will be substantial with 11 swans and I suspect around 100 + ducks to feed.
With Trust members now numbering 70 and more promised, the cost burden will be much reduced.
We have a few ducklings currently surviving on the river, but I won't speak too soon for they won't be totally safe for a while yet.
The Wildlife photo competition ends on Monday, so I would advise you get the last minute entries in NOW !

With a little under 2 months to the close of the River Nairn Swans and Waterfowl Trust Wildlife Photo Competition, we wish to remind all 8 to 15 year olds to keep snapping. This spring has been very cold and prolonged, but hopefully the weather will get warmer soon.
You can send your entries in to me at jayteescot1@hotmail.com or send them in by post to River Nairn Swans and Waterfowl Trust, 10 douglas St, Nairn IV124DJ. You can send in up to 3 photos maximum size A4. Stating your name and address, age, where the photo was taken, with the date and type of camera used. First prize £40 plus one years membership to the Trust, 2nd and 3rd prizes of £20 and £10 plus one year free membership to the Trust.
You can join the current 60 members of the Trust that care about the River Nairn Wildlife. Your photos can be of any local wildlife - land, sea, or air !
Just a reminder to all the young wildlife photographers out there aged 8 to 15, about the River Nairn Swans and Waterfowl Trust Wildlife Photo Competition. Spring to Summer will present many opportunities to take nice photos, it could be an insect, a bird, an animal - any local wildlife at all.

In line with The River Nairn Swans and waterfowl Trust's policy / aims, of getting the youngsters interested in wildlife. We are pleased to announce a Junior Photo Competition for the current year. This will be open to all children aged 8 to 15 years resident in the IV postcode area. There will be 3 prizes of £10 , £20 , £40, Plus all 3 will win a years free membership to the River Nairn Swans and Waterfowl trust.
The rules are simple, submit any wildlife photo taken locally before July1st this year, and it will be judged by all 5 trustees at our mid July meeting. The age of the competitor will be taken into account as well as the camera type, for merit and composition etc. Maximum 3 entries per competitor. Copy the entry form below and submit it with your photo's.
With Camera's available to almost everyone these days, time to get Snapping !!
