With the gorgeous weather persisting, it has been a boon for the wildlife with insects in abundance and vegetation booming. Unfortunately this includes Giant hogweed which was taking hold on the Swans Island, I nipped over today and removed 4 plants which would take a hold if left alone. This will no doubt be part of the annual maintenance of the island since I had to remove some last year too! Anyway things are looking good down there and the shingle added to the island embankment has several good points, not only will it help prevent erosion, but it makes it easier for ducklings and cygnets to climb onto the island from the water...and great covering camouflage for the ducklings ! Meanwhile Steven Seagael is making himself at home, sleeping on Millie's jersey to avoid attacks by the gulls on the garage roof !
